MaineChristian.com Community Toolbar

Tonight something new is coming our way: the MaineChristian.com Community Toolbar. It’s something I’ve been contemplating for a long time and, thanks to a company called Conduit, it has now become a reality. The toolbar installs easily in the Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari web browsers and is completely free. Once installed, the toolbar provides easy access to search Google and MaineChristian.com’s Church Directory, links to various parts of MaineChristian.com, and a radio player that lets you listen to Positive 89.3, WHCF, and Air 1 while you surf! The toolbar will also notify you of important news about MaineChristian.com as well as other items of interest to our users. I encourage you to download the toolbar today and then let me know what you think!

MaineChristian.com Today

I discovered that this morning’s MaineChristian.com Today didn’t include today’s devotions. That has been corrected and the newsletter re-sent. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Have a blessed New Years’ Day!

MaineChristian.com Today Improvements

Starting December 1, you’ll notice a few improvements in the MaineChristian.com Today daily e-newsletter. First, you’ll notice that posts in the All Things New blog and Politics blog will now appear in Today on the day after they are posted to the site. Such posts were never before included in Today. Second, poll questions (which are updated at most once every two weeks) will only be appearing in Today on Mondays and forum posts will only appear in Today on the day after they are posted. We believe that this will create a leaner, more relevant MaineChristian.com Today. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the matter! Feel free to post your comments below.

A Warm Welcome

I would like to introduce you to the newest member of MaineChristian.com’s team of volunteers: Bob S. Bob is a long-time user of MaineChristian.com who has recently agreed to take over the MaineChristian.com Politics blog. You’ve probably noticed that the Politics blog has had several new posts this week and this is thanks to Bob’s hard work. In fact, it was an email from Bob that (without his knowledge) convinced me to launch the Politics blog last spring and you may have seen me reference him as the source of a few Politics blog entries in the past.

When asked for some basic biographical information, Bob begins with, “Follower of Jesus Christ.  Treasuring Him above all else with the saints of First Baptist Church in East Machias.” The 55-year-old husband and father has been married to Joyce for 26 years. His two sons are both in college and one is also training for a commission in the US Marine Corps.  He is a graduate of Husson College and has been employed in banking for the past 25 years.  In addition to serving as a deacon in FBCEM, he also serves on the board of Shekinah House, a women’s shelter being developed in Machias.

Starting last Saturday he is also the editor, comment moderator, and primary author for the Politics blog. Please join me in welcoming him to the team and thanking him for donating his time to the important work of providing our users with news and commentary regarding political action that affects Maine’s Christians. I know he would love to read your comments on his blog posts!

Having your church featured

If you’d like to see your church featured on MaineChristian.com’s home page and in our MaineChristian.com Today daily e-newsletter, all you have to do is upload a photo to your church’s profile. To do that, the church administrator must log in, click Church Administration, and then click Photo.  While you’re there, check out a few of the other church profile features, such as Tabs, Shortcut URL, and Feeds.

Have questions, ideas, or comments? Let us know!

Support Community

In an effort to better encourage feedback and handle technical support issues, I’ve created a support community for MaineChristian.com at Get Satisfaction. You can now send me ideas and request support using the Feedback button that appears on every page of MaineChristian.com. In addition, users are encouraged to help each other by replying to messages posted in the support community. Let’s communicate! I look forward to hearing from you.

Welcome back, Forums!

I have some big news this evening: the forums are back! It is my pleasure to announce that MaineChristian.com Forums is open and waiting for the community to begin discussing. As a site committed to Connecting Maine’s Christians, the lack of a central area for users to communicate regarding a variety of topics has been just plain strange. No more! Whether you want to talk about current events, movies, enjoying the gift God has given us in this beautiful land we call Maine, morality, or any other topic that strikes your fancy, you can do it in the forums. Just be sure to follow our forum rules and we’ll welcome your discussion.

Also, let us know what you think!

John Waller concert

This morning, I discovered a bug that was causing two John Waller concerts to appear in “This Week’s Events” on our home page and in MaineChristian.com Today. In reality, the concert in Sanford on Friday was canceled and should not have been appearing. My apologies for the confusion. John Waller will be in Brewer on Thursday.

Find us on Facebook

Are you a Facebook user? If so, please help us out by becoming a fan of MaineChristian.com on Facebook. When you do, you’ll be able to easily keep track of new events, updated church directory profiles, daily devotions, featured churches, and more via our wall and your Facebook home page. Or, if you prefer, you can follow us on Twitter.

Now: Easier management of events!

If you’ve added an event to MaineChristian.com’s Local Events page in the past, you know that it was a pain to add the event and an even bigger pain to update an event that you previously added. Well, that is the case no more! Now, you can add your events to the site using an easy-to-use form. What’s more, you can also update any event listing that you previously posted. Just sign in, go to the event’s detail page, and click Edit Event. There’s only one caveat: in order to add an event, you now must be a member of the site and log in. It’s free, though, so don’t let that hold you back! Add your event today!
